Oubaai

Ranked as 38th in South Africa

The signature hole at Oubaai is the par three 17th, played downhill to what, in modern course design parlance, is termed an “infinity green” with the sparkling Indian Ocean as a backdrop.

Oubaai is situated some 7kms from George Airport on the coastline of The Garden Route at Herolds Bay. Oubaai Golf Club is a Championship Golf Course designed by 3 times Major Championship Winner Ernie Els. Els himself has placed Oubaai as his favourite course in the world.

The layout of the course is traditional Links (that is 9 holes out and 9 holes back). This has enabled the Club to offer a unique two tee operation, the first being an exclusive member’s only area on the 1st tee and a visitor section on the 10th tee. Each area having its own clubhouse for golfers to enjoy the tranquillity and benchmark golfing experience offered by Oubaai.

You could scarcely wish for a more dramatic location on which to create a golf course. It was clear from the outset that this golf course would be designed to maximize the impact of its natural, rugged and beautiful surroundings.

Oubaai Golf Club was designed with its philosophy rooted in flexibility; the course itself has been sculpted in accordance with the landscape, ensuring that the surrounding environment is enhanced and not hindered. The result is a lush stretch of land that is framed by the magnificent Outeniqua Mountains which hover in the distance, while the Gwaing River Valley winds a vicarious route just below the course.
